How To Avoid Crappy Health Plans
To avoid crappy health plans, be sure to ask the salesperson about the limitations and exclusions of the plan they’re trying to sell to you, and get their answer IN WRITING should you decide to enroll in that plan. Specifically, you want to ask about any annual or lifetime maximum benefits.
We’d like to share the name of the company who tried to sell our customer their crappy plan, but lawyers are out there roaming to and fro, seeking who they may devour, so we’re gonna heed the advice of Proverbs 13:3 – “whoever guards his mouth preserves his life; he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin”.
One of our customers, 26 years old, called to request cancellation of the health plan he had with Work Perks Pro. He told us he found another health plan that was only going cost him $77/month, saving him about half of what he was paying.
We asked him to look at page 5 of his policy and look for the line that says “annual maximum benefit”. That’s when he learned the most the plan would pay out was $150,000 per year. Now that amount MIGHT work for relatively minor illnesses and injuries, but it won’t even touch the big stuff.
He wisely chose to keep the plan he had with us. Yes, he is paying $153/month for it instead of $77/month, but there is no annual limitation in the amount the plan pays, and there is no lifetime maximum either.
You’re welcome.
